  About My Stepbrother’s Baby…

She took the wrap for me, even though she didn’t have to. She’d done something that no one had ever done before. Stood up for me. That caught my attention in a big way. She was different, with her fiery red hair and eyes that I just couldn’t forget. I wanted her, ever single inch of her, and not just her body. I wanted that mind that challenged me, that made me want to be around her more.

I should have kept my head in the game, but she was always on my mind. I should have paid attention because all of a sudden, I was in the middle of some major drama. I had enough drama of my own, but the moment Anita came to my house that night, things changed. And it’s too late to go back now…

  Chapter One

  Evan

I waited patiently, but the way my foot tapped on the floor said that was a lie. Still, I waited. The last bell of the day, the bell for those that had been given detention, would soon ring and Anita’s time in detention would be over. I’d made sure mine would be the first face she saw as I waited at the door.

I’d left my own class early, after the teacher left when she was called to the office. I had to see Anita, see her face. I wasn’t disappointed.

When she came out of the door her face scrunched up in the cutest way and her jaw dropped. I have that effect on people, what can I say? Anita was good though, and the shock was quickly replaced with a grin.

The difference from when we first met to now was so huge; I unconsciously smiled back.

“Hey,” she said, walking over to me. “What are you doing here?”

Her curly red hair was in a pony tail on top of her head, soft, glossy curls caught my attention before I glanced down to see those eyes of her smiling up at me.

I grinned at her. “Since you’re officially out of trouble now, let’s go and do something.”

“What were you thinking?” she asked, curious. She pulled a black jacket out of her book bag as we walked towards the doors and slid it on over her white sweater and blue jeans.

I shrugged. “Just something simple. A walk in the park, maybe? We can get ice cream on the way.”

It was the best idea I could come up with. It was romantic, but safe. The park was convenient, too, because not a lot of people from school went there.

Anita followed me to my car, and I drove us there. There were a few ice cream vendors scattered around. I came to the park pretty often, when I had nothing to do and didn’t want to go home early, so I headed for the guy that sold ice cream near some picnic tables. We sat down and talked, both of us fighting to win the race against our quickly melting ice cream for a few minutes before we got it under control.

“I don’t feel like going home,” Anita said with a sigh after her ice cream was at a level where it wouldn’t drip down her hands.

I felt the same. She spoke before I could say so.

“I’ll have to get back a bit earlier today, though, since I already told Mom detention was over.”

“Was she really mad at you when she heard you were in detention?” I asked, feeling a little guilty.

I knew where she lived, and it made me wonder what her life was like at home. I didn’t think it was anywhere near as privileged as mine, but her mother would still be mad to learn she got herself detention, wouldn’t she?

“It was fine,” she said with a shrug, though I didn’t believe her. “I didn’t even tell her.”

My eyes left the ice cream to stare at her in surprise.

  “Wait, she doesn’t know?”

Anita shook her head. “Oh, she knows. I got away with it for a while, since she usually gets home later than me anyway, but she got home early the day the notice came. Of course! Her shift ended early at her second job, and she was home before I could check the mail or delete messages on the answering machine. I got chewed out for it.”

  “Second job?” I murmured.

She nodded. “Yeah. We’re not that well off, financially, and she never went to college, so Mom only works low-skilled jobs. She had me early, too, so there was no time to learn any other skills.”

“What about your dad?” I don’t think I’ve ever heard her mention a father, but we all have one, right?

“What about him,” she snorted. “He was only a burden, even worse than I am to her now. I at least plan to repay her, Dad was never much help when he was alive, and he drank himself to death a long time ago, anyway.”

I was shocked by how casually she said it, and I was silent for a long time. I didn’t know what to say. Anita didn’t seem too bothered, though, and just kept licking up her ice cream as she looked around the park.

“I’m sorry,” I murmured after a while. I didn’t want the conversation to end, but I didn’t want to drag out any misery for her either.

She sighed and looked away with a grim smile. “There’s no need for you to be sorry. One, it was a long time ago. Two, Dad never cared much about me, so I consider him a stranger that lived with us. I remember when Mom told me he wouldn’t be coming back. I didn’t feel anything, not said or happy, nothing. All I could think was the house wouldn’t smell funny anymore.” She turned to me with a soft smile. “It’s tragic, but some people just don’t get those picture-perfect families you see on TV.”

  “Yeah.”

I understood that part more than she knew. The relationship between my mom and dad had been unstable for as long as I could remember. There were scenes I saw when I was a kid that I would think back on and cringe over. The memories just made me realize all over again that my parents might have never truly cared for each other. They held on, not for their kids, but for my elder sister, their favorite kid. Now that she’d moved away from home and had mentioned plans of living by herself after college, my parents really might end up getting divorced.

When the arguments first started, the idea terrified me, but now, I would feel relieved because it would defuse the tension at home.

“I almost feel sorry for my mom,” she continued. “She was stuck with a man like that because he got her pregnant. I don’t think he was ever in love with her, and there are times I wonder why he stayed behind at all. Mom raised me as a single mother long before he passed away, while he did odd jobs and used the cash for his alcohol, sometimes even taking Mom’s money for it. We were both different kinds of parasites, but I always planned to make life easier for her later, when I could. That’s why I take school very seriously.”

Still, she took the fall for me for something she didn’t do. At that moment, I couldn’t help but feel guilty. We spent a long while in silence, even after the ice cream was long gone, both lost in our thoughts.

  Anita broke the silence first.

“To be honest with you, I haven’t talked to anyone before about the issues I go through at home,” she admitted. “I don’t even know why I blurted all that out. I guess it’s just too easy to talk to you.”

I smiled at her, a little sadly. “Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?”

  She shrugged her shoulde
rs. “I haven’t decided yet.”

Then she jumped up and found a trash can nearby to throw the leftover cone in, and I followed. The smile she aimed at me was bright.

“I think we’ve stayed long enough. Mom said she’d be home early today just to make sure that I am, too. I don’t know if she meant it, but I probably shouldn’t risk it.”

“All right,” I said softly, leading the way back to the car.

  Chapter Two

  Anita

“Would you mind if I came over?”

My head snapped around to stare at him. I was strapping myself into the seat, and I froze with the seat belt pulled across my body.

  “What?” I said, stunned.

He smiled. “I’m asking if you would invite me over to your house. If your Mom is there, I’ll just walk you over to the door. I still feel like I should apologize and explain things to her, though, if she was really mad at you.”

Mom was never really mad, though, just worried. While the neighborhood we lived in wasn’t the best looking of places, and certainly not at night with a lot of the streetlights gone, it was pretty safe. Still, Mom didn’t like me being out late, especially after dark, which was why I didn’t spend a lot of time on afterschool activities. The walk back alone was pretty long, if I had to do detention or even an after-school club, I’d walk and arrive home late.

  “I guess it’s okay,” I said slowly.

I didn’t know what we could do at my house, but maybe I could just talk him into leaving at the doorstep. The apartment was clean, no matter who was out the door first in the morning, neither Mom nor I ever left the place dirty. Still, there were only three people I’d ever invited back, and two of them had moved out of the neighborhood while I was in middle school, and the third was my current best friend who didn’t visit all that often.

Evan started the car and drove us back, and I remembered to buckle the seat belt. My heart was thumping loudly in my chest, and I willed it to calm down as we spent the short drive in silence. We got there before I was ready for it, and Evan got out of the car. I scrambled to unbuckle the belt and stumbled out myself.

Then, I blinked when I realized we were in a better neighborhood some streets away from where I lived.

“I thought I could walk you back,” Evan offered. “Since you said before it wouldn’t be safe parking in your neighborhood. This should be fine, right?”

  “Um, yes.”

We walked in awkward silence, though that could have just been me. Evan looked relaxed as he walked beside me with his hands in his pockets, looking around curiously. When we got to my neighborhood, Evan drifted a little closer, until our arms brushed, and I bit my lip to hold back a gasp. I wasn’t sure if he realized he was doing it, but I wasn’t about to complain.

“This is the building?” He asked and looked up when we got the spot where he dropped me off last time.

“Yes, it’s here.” I slowed down my steps and glanced at him. “Are you sure you want to come up? Shouldn’t you go home instead? Your family might get worried about you. You weren’t in detention, but you still waited for me every day.”

Evan shrugged. “They won't care, so it’s fine. Show me your home.”

I led him into the building. It was an old apartment building, so there was no elevator, just a narrow staircase, so I walked ahead of him. We went up three floors, and I looked over my shoulder to be sure he was still following. We stopped at the third door to my right in the hallway, and I pulled out my house keys. I had a moment to wonder if I should be embarrassed, but he’d practically invited himself over.

  “This is my place.”

I pushed the door open, and we walked inside, then locked it behind us. Mom had her key. I didn’t hear anyone else inside, so she must be still at work.

The apartment was small, the tiny living room with just enough space to fit a couch and one single seat, a tiny coffee table and a bigger table holding a small TV that we’d had forever. A door to the right led to the small kitchen area, and a short hallway led to two bedrooms and a bathroom. I pointed out the rooms to him from the living room and had him sit on the sofa.

While it was a small space, it was comfortable with just two people. It was also clean since Mom, and I made sure to take care of it every day.

Evan didn’t judge, just looked around curiously, before turning to me.

  “Where’s your room?”

I led him to the short hall and the door right at the end. The room was big enough to hold a bed, a dresser, and a tiny desk Mom got when another tenant moved out years ago. That’s where I usually did my homework, with a tiny window looking out into the street that I’d stare out of sometimes. There was some room to stand, but it felt cramped with two people in it, especially Evan with his big build.

He walked inside, and I closed the door behind us.

  Chapter Three

  Evan

I sat down on the bed, bouncing a little. It squeaked in protest, but I ignored it. The bed felt hard under me, nothing like my own big, soft bed. I almost wished I could take Anita to my room, but that might not go down well with my parents. I didn’t want her to see what my home life was like, either.

“There isn’t much in here.” I’d noted the absence of pictures or the other wall hangings I’d noticed in the bedrooms of others girls I knew. It wasn’t like my sister’s room at all; hers had been covered with ribbons she’d won for a variety of activities, and other mementos from her time in high school.

Anita leaned back against the door and crossed her arms over her chest.

“I don’t need a lot of stuff, to begin with. All I ever do in here is sleep or study.”

  “Hmm.”

Our gazes met and held, and the small space between us grew charged.

“Come here,” I said, motioning with my hand for her to sit next to me.

The bed was pushed against the wall opposite the door, but there was just enough space that I wouldn’t reach her unless I stretched myself forward. She seemed to hesitate, and I wondered if she could tell the change in the room, or if it was just me. Impulsively, when she did come closer, I reached my arms out, and grabbed her by the waist and drug her over to me.

“What are you doing?” She asked, looking at me with wide eyes.

I smirked, spread my knees and circled my hands around to the small of her back to pull her in closer. She moved without resistance, and I grew excited.

“Do you hate it?” I retorted.

She looked nervous behind the shock, but after a few seconds, she shook her head. I relaxed, then surprised myself, because I hadn't realized I was nervous, too. I’d been spending a lot of time around Anita recently, and I didn’t realize when my view of her changed, but I knew what I wanted to do with the two of us locked inside her bedroom.

Giving her a calculating look, I dropped back on her bed, and tugged her down with me, so she fell into my chest. Anita let out a yelp as we fell, but she still didn’t try to move away. Grinning, I rolled her over, so she was under me.

“Can I kiss you?” I whispered.

She blinked up at me, then tentatively nodded her head.

I didn’t hesitate, letting out a groan as I ducked my head to press my lips to hers. There was a voice in the back of my head telling me to be careful, she might not be used to being kissed, but it lasted for about a second, then I was devouring her. I wanted her, and I didn’t think my brain could take any more of the wait.

Lucky for me, Anita wasn’t against the plan. I felt her body stiffen when I kissed her, but then she sighed, parted her lips for my tongue, and her arms wrapped around my neck.

“I don’t think I can stop, Anita,” I admitted, pulling away from her mouth to run kissed along her swanlike neck. I wanted to rip her clothes off and have my way with her, but I wasn’t sure if she would let me.

Anita groaned. “I don’t want you to.”

  “Good,” I growled.

I caught the bottom of her sweater and tugged it up. A
nita pulled her arms away, so I could pull it off her, along with the t-shirt she had on underneath. I explored her chest with soft kisses before I moved on to nip at her nipples through her bra. I pushed the cups out of the way and sucked on one hardened nub, and she let out a loud moan as her back arched and her arms tightened around me again.

Her fingers clawed at my shirt before she started tugging on it.

“Off,” she gasped. “Not just me. I want to feel your skin against me.”

I hummed, and reluctantly pulled away to unbutton my shirt quickly. I was too impatient to undo all the buttons and pulled the shirt up over my head. I kissed her again as I shoved the shirt away, and we scrambled to get naked, Anita’s urgency increasing to beat mine. In the short pauses in between kisses to catch our breaths, she would place kisses all over my chin and jaws, giving an occasional nip.

“Fuck, Anita,” I groaned, kicking my jeans. “You’re so sexy.”

She just moaned in response. We were in nothing but our underwear, Anita’s legs wrapped around my hips, and I rocked against her, rubbing my erection into her sex through her panties. Sweet little cries poured from her throat that made me grow more and more excited.

“Ugh,” I groaned, forcing myself to stop and kneel above her.

Panting, she fluttered her eyes open. The look she leveled on me had me groaning some more. Her lips were swollen and dark red from all the rough kissing; her cheeks flushed, eyes bright with want. I took a deep breath, and tried to rein in my own body.

“Why did you stop?” she complained, breathless.

I let out a strained laugh. “If I didn’t stop, it would be over before we got to the really fun part.”

She groaned in disappointment, her hands on my back trying to tug me down, so I was laying on top of her again. I braced down on my forearm but refused to close the space between us just yet and pushed my other hand underneath her to reach for the clasp of her bra. Her arms withdrew from around my back, so she could pull off the straps and toss it off the bed. I stared at her breasts as my mouth watered. I wanted to take my time and enjoy them, but my cock pulsed in my briefs. That barrier between us went next, then her panties, and we were both left naked on the bed.
